CBD Facts vs. Myths

Shedding Light on the Half-Truths and Downright Falsities Surrounding Cannabidiol

Maybe you’re tired of dealing with insomnia. Maybe you don’t like the idea of treating your arthritic dog with prescription painkillers. Or maybe you’re in college and struggling with anxiety in the classroom.

As different as these challenges are, each might become more manageable with a health care regimen that includes CBD. Derived from the hemp plant, CBD helps regulate your body’s endocannabinoid system, making CBD a potentially useful remedy for a vast array of symptoms.

However, there are almost as many misconceptions floating around CBD as there are useful applications for the product. So today, we’ll put to bed some of the CBD confusion. Read on as we address the six most common CBD myths.

Myth #1: CBD will get you high.

CBD does not have psychoactive properties — that’s THC you’re thinking of. However, CBD is not completely without neurological effects. Just ask researchers who are seeing potential applications in treating conditions like depression and anxiety. All of our products at Simply CBD are free of THC, and the brands we carry share their testing data with us to prove it. We also send random samples to our own third-party testing facility to ensure product integrity.

Myth #2: CBD is illegal.

While laws may vary across states, even existing laws aren’t as straightforward as one would hope. CBD products are legal in all 50 states, as long as they are derived from hemp and not from marijuana, and contain 0.0% THC. Simply CBD carries only hemp-derived CBD products that are THC-free.

Myth #3: CBD is addictive.

CBD is not habit-forming. In 2017, the World Health Organization reported that CBD is non-addictive: “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential,” the report stated. In fact, preliminary research indicates that CBD may be helpful for people who are suffering from withdrawal from cigarettes or opiates.

Myth #4: CBD is a cure-all.

CBD has not been proven to cure any life-threatening conditions — so if you see any CBD company claiming otherwise, take your money elsewhere. These kinds of false claims have become so common that the FDA issued several warning letters in November 2017. That said, a growing body of research shows CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties and positive effect on brain chemistry may offer an array of health benefits. Myth #5: CBD requires a prescription.

In states where medical marijuana is available, a prescription is required to obtain CBD products derived from marijuana. However, hemp-derived CBD is available to anyone — no doctor’s visit required.

Myth #6: A higher dose of CBD equals higher efficacy.

False. When it comes to CBD, more is not always better. Sometimes smaller doses are more effective. It all depends on the person and their reason for trying CBD products. Doses can vary from 1 mg of CBD to hundreds depending on the brand and method of intake, but it’s always best to start with a low concentration and work your way up to find the dose that suits you best. At Simply CBD, we can help you find a dose that works for you.

We hope this helps clear up some of the confusion — and if you have lingering questions (or simply feel curious), then feel free to stop by any of our CBD dispensaries across New Orleans to check out our huge selection of hemp-derived CBD oils, edibles, and other products. We can offer feedback on everything from which CBD product is right for you to how we ensure the products we carry are pure, legal, and contain only the ingredients listed on their labels.
